The Parish of Rushen is situated in the south west corner of the Isle of Man. It has a population of approximately 7,058. Within the parish are four churches which are varied in structure and design:
The parish has a mixed population of young, middle aged and retired people. There
is little or no ethnic diversity. Generally speaking there are more retired people.
There are two primary schools which serve children from young families. Although
they are both situated in Port St Mary, the larger of the two tends to serve families
from Port Erin.
There are a wide-range of employment opportunities on the island
most of which are centred around its capital, Douglas. Those employed in the parish
tend to travel to the capital, although some work locally or in other areas of the
island. There is very little unemployment.
The parish itself is a friendly place and has a community spirit which helps to give it its welcoming nature. Throughout the summer months and during other holiday periods the parish welcomes holidaymaker's from all over the world, and they are encouraged to worship with us. In August a Beach Mission is held in Port St Mary. This attracts many children and young families who have a wonderful time having fun, and learning about the Christian faith.
Our parish web site is currently under development and we hope in the forthcoming months to expand it to include details of our history and heritage.
